AVOID summary: Ortho tech quoted approx RM 300 for 2 models and 2 essix retainers but invoiced RM 401.64 Ortho tech staled approx 20ml resin per model but invoiced 34.5ml. per model. quick volume check of solid plaster model gave 23ml before refinement Ortho tech stated 1 model per retainer. Others ( details below ) don’t agree. we did not buy for detailed reasons below. _______________________________________________________________ walking in @ 13.50 hrs on Monday 24 Feb, the first impression was mess! Boxes ( some open ) - stacked bean bags and not the clean tidy place shown in their website photos. Davis was eating his lunch in the shop window. Most of their email correspondence lacked the writers name. 2020 02 18 they quoted “ essix retainer ( pressure formed ) - RM 80.00 per retainer” “ Trios Digital Scan (optional) - RM FOC “ “ 3D Printed model (optional) - RM3.50 per ml ( average model is 20ml)” this puts cost of an average 3D printed model at RM 70. 2020 02 21 they stated: “ Please both that the total cost may be in the region of 300, as we will need to 3D print 2 models (one for each retainer) as the trimming process usually damages the model.” Ok so the total cost would be about (2x80)+(2x70)=RM 300 Their first invoice with errors was RM 401.64 having used 241.64 ml Their revised invoice ( still with errors and no revision number ) was RM 401.64 having used 69.04 ml. Neither invoice mentioned 2 models! given the process ( see video) u cannot measure 0.04 ML of liquid resin given there are pouring splashes drips etc. 2020 02 26 we took expert advice from a Dental expert near by. the verdict was the size was NOT average but “SMALL” ( a female asian mouth) Its seems “ortho tech’s average model is 20ml ” was very wrong “if” they actually used 34.5 ml an increase of 73% from average to small! A cross check on volume indicates 34.5 is wrong. By simple water displacement test on the plaster model used to make 2 retainers in penang, the volume is 23 ML. However a resin model will be hollow and more refined as CAD designed: thus reducing the volume further by approx 20% We then purchased 2 Essix retainers from another penang company. The total cost including local courier was only RM 270 : a difference of 67%; plus we kept the model for use next time. Investigating further we have found you can make more than one (1) essix from a 3d printed resin model. The source of this latter information is from: Detax gmbh - germany 3ddentalprints usa Thantakit International Dental Center - Thailand etc etc. Videos relating to the aforementioned. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RiQzGG0GVY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHPLXd1YExk This company has no published quality assurance certification. Given the aforementioned we advise people to avoid this company.
