Saw Dr. Yao Xu JAN2020. She turned my 1hr check up and clean into a near 3 hour session with 8 fillings, X-ray, long consult - the works. The procedures and associated risks were not explained to me, nor was the pricing. She did not give me the opportunity to think about the extensive treatment and risks, and properly consent. Had I been well informed I would have never let her touch my teeth. I had just given birth, and had any risk been explained, I would have declined.
Massive bill shock at the end (~$1700). Returned next day to fix a lumpy filling. Once again poor communication and ended up damaging my tooth. I was left sore mouth and jaw, and in pain. After 2 weeks the pain got worse and worse. I couldn’t think, couldn’t concentrate, couldn’t eat or drink. I had no choice but to seek other Dentists for second and third opinions, both confirmed I had suffered a root canal infection from the treatment of Dr Yao.
I’ve lost 10 months of my life, from the tooth pain to months of going to the hospital and clinics, the issue is still ongoing and not resolved. I’ve lost precious time with my baby, from the stress of the pain and constant Dentist appointments, I couldn’t breastfeed her.
The follow up Endodontist and Dentists asked why the original Dentist and clinic who caused the mess didn’t help to resolve it. Where was the duty of care?
I found the Owner/Director Dr. Justin to be unethical in his approach to resolving the issue. I was in a lot of pain and discomfort caused by his clinic. There was no proper after care or support and his responses were slow and each response felt like he was just hoping I would go away.
Dr. Yao also did not want to help resolve and was too gutless to even have a call or conversation to explain herself or to even say sorry initially. Dr. Justin tried to offer a $500 refund but I have to sign legal documents to waiver my rights - which I declined. I sought justice for myself through the Dental Council who found that Dr. Yao’s treatment was “less than ideal” and “improve on her communication”, especially around the need for consent, and is obligated to do a communication course.
The infection and the suffering could have been avoided had they been more professional and tried to resolve this issue amicably for the patient. This practice lacks ethics, professionalism, empathy and care. Subsequently I’ve lost the tooth. An inexperienced, unskilled so called Dentist caused me so much heartache and suffering this year and not to mention $5K+ in damage fixing the mistake she caused.
AVOID THIS CLINIC AT ALL COSTS. THERE ARE MUCH MORE CARING AND PROFESSIONAL DENTISTS IN SINGAPORE WHO WILL LOOK AFTER THEIR PATIENTS.
